In today’s toxic world, it’s important to support not only our own health but also our pets’ health. Many pets struggle with allergies, skin issues, and other health problems, and unfortunately, the cancer rate is increasing for our furry friends as well. As a pet owner of three golden retrievers, I understand the importance of helping them live long, happy and healthy lives. There are several simple things we can do to support our pets and provide them with the best care. I want to reiterate these are simply tools + supports that I have utilized for my own pets but this does not replace veterinarian advice.
One key aspect I believe is just as important – if not more so – for our pets is minimizing their exposure to toxins. We need to be mindful of the cleaning products and substances our pets come into contact with, especially because they spend most of their time inside our homes.
Better options for floor cleaning:
- Avoid using products with artificial scents
- Consider investing in a steam mop for hardwood flooring
- Use a HEPA vacuum daily to minimize dust, dander, allergens, and hair
We also need to consider the impact of air quality on our pets, as environmental factors can affect them, including mold exposure. I’ve had two of my dogs exposed to mold in the past, which has made it crucial for me to support their bodies post-exposure. Improving air quality involves being mindful of what we introduce into the air, such as candles, room sprays, and perfumes. These fragrances can be harmful for our pets to breathe in. It’s important to eliminate these sources of indoor pollution to support both ourselves and our pets.
A few ways to improve air quality:
- Avoid using toxic candles and sprays
- Invest in quality air purifiers to reduce allergens, dust, and dander. I recommend Air Doctor, Intellipure and IQ air (best quality)
- Open the windows for at least 10 minutes a day when the weather is nice to let in fresh air
- Be cautious when using essential oils, especially citrus-based ones, and ensure that your pets can leave the room if needed
Pet Nutrition:
Nutrition plays a fundamental role in our pets’ health, but it can be challenging to navigate. Most commercial pet food is processed at high temperatures, making it carcinogenic and nutritionally deficient for our pets. It’s important to consider alternatives and carefully select the best food options for our pets.
My approach to nutrition includes incorporating a “better” kibble like Open Farm, which is not cooked at extremely high temperatures and has worked well for my pets since around 2018. As always, i’m always looking for better options and to do my best for my pets so this may change! Additionally, I’ve found that adding rotating toppers and other food sources has been beneficial to provide a variety of nutrients.
Some things I add to their diet:
Bone broth: I use Perfect Supplements bone broth, which I add to a small amount to clean water and mix with their food to provide essential nutrients and minerals, making it easier for them to digest the kibble. You can find this and other products by clicking the photo and using code ACWELL for discount.
– Rotating real meat: I gently cook grass-fed ground beef, lamb, or turkey, and rotate these options. Chicken can be inflammatory for dogs, so it’s important to ensure a good source
– Sardines: These are rich in healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, crucial for our pets’ immune systems, brain health, and skin. I make sure to use clean sourced sardines and add 1 or 2 to their food
– Vegetables: I incorporate different vegetables into their meals; a few pieces of carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, and spinach are well-received by my dogs
Omega 3 oil: I add this oil to their food to ensure they get adequate Omega-3 fatty acids, which is available in my fullscript. Omega 3’s are incredible important for our pets to support their brain, coats and immune systems.
-Glandulars: I will rotate glandulars as well for a great source of vitamins and minerals for my dogs including beef liver, spleen, heart etc. Always be cautious on sourcing and dosing – we do not want to be giving our pets any conventional sourced glandulars. Again small amounts are better and safer than large amounts for our pets to digest. My favorite sources are: perfect supplements and codeage.

Bioenergetics:
PetMedella Scan
To get an overview of my pets’ health and identify any issues they may be facing, I rely on PetMedella scans. These bioresonance scans provide valuable insight into my dog Cooper’s skin and allergy issues without invasive procedures. This service is offered by the same company that provides Creating Balanced Health Scans more info here.

Some of my favorite pet products over the years:
Dog shampoo:
Dog Bowls: stainless steel slow feeder dog bowls
- To clean these bowls, I do run them in the dishwasher to sanitize every so often. Otherwise for daily cleaning, I use the Force of Nature disinfecting spray and then rinse off with water after its sat on the bowls for a few minutes. This is really important to keep bowls clean and sanitized to minimize bacterial growth which can impact our pets health.
Safe yard pest sprays: Yardsafe Cedar spray
Tick supports:
- Amber Collars
- Cistus Tea available in DSS – I add a tiny pinch to their food daily before early spring through the end of fall to minimize tick bites and give immune support
- Fly collars (these would probably be easy to make but I haven’t tried yet)
- doTERRA TerraShield
Thundershirt: here this is super helpful for my dog Cooper who is terrified of thunder
Dog wash station: this was 100% worth purchasing. It is so durable, easy to clean and does not kill my back while giving my dogs a bath. Check out here
Parasite cleansing: for my dogs, I have rotated different supports for parasite cleansing. Typically I will incorporate panacur which is not holistic or necessarily “clean” but gives me peace of mind to parasite cleanse.
There are other herbs I incorporate for parasite cleansing such as Golden thread (great for dogs and humans with fungal issues) Melia, Morinda which I like to source from Supreme Nutrition
They have a post here on dosing
*Do not use Vital Guard or MT Supreme.
Additional support for pets:
My golden retriever, Cooper, has severe allergies and was getting dreaded allergy shots. I prefer natural remedies and have been exploring the use of peptides for myself for stabilizing MCAS after dealing with major mold/fungal overgrowth. I searched high and low and found a peptide product that has been effective for Cooper, helping us avoid allergy shots! We’ve been consistent with Protect for about two months and he had pretty instant relief. You simply put 1 scoop a day on their food. Remember to always start slow incorporating anything new into your pet’s diet!
